Birmingham City may compete with Sunderland for transfers in the summer.

In an attempt to sign Wigan Athletic goalkeeper Sam Tickle, Birmingham City is expected to challenge Sunderland.

The England under-21 goalkeeper was strongly connected to a switch to The Blues during the January transfer

window of last year and has been called one of the best goalkeepers in the EFL by several publications.

However, Sunderland is the most recent team to be associated with Tickle as a possible Anthony Patterson

substitute, should Mike Dodds‘ first pick depart the team this summer.

Wigan Athletic’s Alan Nixon reports that the Black Cats are “checking on” the England under-21 international,

who has made 40 appearances in League One so far this season.

Birmingham World, however, speculates that if Birmingham City keeps their Championship position, they might

rekindle their interest in the stopper.

With Nathan Bishop, Sunderland’s backup goalkeeper, still on board following his summer transfer from

Manchester United, the goalkeeping situation at the club offers an intriguing subplot going into the transfer window.

At the Academy of Light, Sunderland also has a number of highly regarded goalkeepers,

including promising players Matty promising, Dan Cameron, and Adam Richardson.

Following their disastrous performance against Blackburn Rovers on Easter Monday,

interim head coach Mike Dodds and his players will be under pressure to put on a respectable display when

Sunderland takes on Bristol City at the Stadium of Light in the Championship this coming Saturday.

Following Tony Mowbray’s illness, Gary Rowett took over as manager of Birmingham City till the end of the season.

With high-flying Leicester City coming up this weekend, the Blues are only two points above the relegation zone.
