Kyril Louis-Dreyfus was appointed chairman of Sunderland in February 2021, and he became a controlling shareholder 16 months later.

The 26-year-old and Juan Sartori bought out Stewart Donald, with KLD owning 64% and his Uruguayan partner gaining 36%.

KLD had an immediate impact at the club, leading Sunderland back to the Championship and bringing in players like Jack Clarke,

Dan Ballard, and Trai Hume to excite fans’ interest.

Kristjaan Speakman, the club’s sporting director, has shifted the club’s strategy to focus on acquiring and selling young players for profit.

While the new “model” benefited the club in the early years, the Black Cats have begun to bear the costs of investing mainly in unproven players this season.

Sunderland supporters have expressed their disappointment following their recent 5-1 loss to Blackburn Rovers.

After a disappointing season, Steve Davison was the first to be sacked, and fans have also demanding Kristjaan Speakman’s departure.

Sunderland’s owner must ‘admit defeat’

William Storey, the founder of Rich Energy and a past Sunderland bidder, believes Louis-Dreyfus and Sartori should be dismissed.

Storey attempted to buy the club in 2020 but returned with a consortium prepared to pay Louis-Dreyfus £42 million two years later.

The British businessman has since attempted to buy Reading and Coventry City,

but his claims have been consistently denied by fans and the media.

He has repeatedly visited X to voice his disgust with Sunderland, and he was quick to denounce its owners yesterday.

He wrote: “I was in Africa on business when I saw the Sunderland result.

Ironically, in Blackburn, the Venkys are seen as bad proprietors who do not understand football.

Sunderland’s board of directors must act soon, either investing or conceding defeat and selling. Embarrassing.”

Is William Storey spewing nonsense?

William Storey should be ignored at all costs, yet many fans believe that Kyril Louis-Dreyfus should sell the club, which I strongly disagree with.

The Swiss-French owner may not be the wealthiest person in the world,

but he has proved that we can accomplish our goals without spending a lot of money.

If Sunderland had won the play-offs last season, there would have been few complaints,

because we would have achieved back-to-back promotions with a superb young side, but we arguably failed owing to a slew of injuries.

Kristjaan Speakman is to fault for this season’s failures, and if he had appointed a good successor to Tony Mowbray in December,

we could have been able to challenge for a place in the top flight again.

Louis-Dreyfus may have made mistakes, but I don’t consider him a bad owner, and I don’t think we’d be better off without him.

If he sees the light and gets rid of Speakman, we could be on the right route.

However, it would be ideal if Sartori chose to rip his finger out and demonstrate his worth to the club.
