Paolo Maldini’s next employment will be outside of Italy, having left AC Milan last summer,

and he could even play a role in the construction of Newcastle United’s new stadium.

Few players are as closely associated with a club as Maldini the Rossoneri.

The veteran defender, who is regarded as one of the game’s finest players, spent 31 years playing at the San Siro.

Maldini has recently moved into the boardroom and will serve as technical director from 2019 to 2023.

In 2022, they won their first Serie A title in over a decade, and no one is more Milan than Maldini,

who has a retired shirt number and three generations of family members who have represented the club.

According to reports, the 55-year-old, who led a regime that signed players such as Theo Hernandez, Rafael Leao,

Mike Maignan, and Fikayo Tomori, is being considered to succeed Dan Ashworth as Newcastle’s sporting director.

Maldini has previously stated that he will not be associated with another Italian club and has hinted that he may join the Saudi Pro League.

“For my job, the alternatives (in Italy) to Milan are very limited,” he stated in December.

“I could never join another Italian team. Possibly, I would only consider the offer of a top-tier foreign team.

I enjoy winning and building. Who knows, Saudi Arabia could be an exciting choice.

“I fought to make it clear that we needed a bigger stadium with some seats accessible to all,” he went on to say.

“The average of over 70,000 spectators at San Siro last season demonstrates that I was correct.”

A new, modern, and friendly San Siro is essential.

“The concept that the new stadium will offer €80 million more to invest in the market needs to be reconsidered,

as seen by last season’s results. When I talked about Milan’s potential and uniqueness in comparison to other clubs,

I probably made many chuckle.

But I know it’s like this. If there was a possibility, and the mayor is solely accountable for it,

I would build the stadium in San Siro, possibly in collaboration with Inter.

After five years, there is still no first brick, and we have no idea where the stadium will be erected.

“Milan has regained its position as a driving force in Europe over the last decade,

thanks to the removal of old mental obstacles. We should be terrified of degeneration, not the future.

The current San Siro is iconic, but let us remember that the great champions who played there built it that way.

It’s still amazing from a sporting standpoint, but we need a fresh story. The past is the past. Milan have always looked to the future.”
