Reports state that clubs are lining up to recruit Trai Hume this summer.

Before the summer, a number of teams are pursuing Sunderland defender Trai Hume.

The Northern Irish international is reportedly a transfer target for up to five clubs at the moment,

according to the Belfast Telegraph.

Aston Villa and AFC Bournemouth are two Premier League teams that are reportedly interested in the 22-year-old

ahead of the summer.

Leicester City and Leeds United, two of Sunderland’s other Championship rivals,

are reportedly also fierce competitors.

It’s interesting to note that Napoli of Serie A is the fifth team to be reported as having interest in Hume.

After Hume made 40 appearances in the Championship for the Black Cats this season—all of their current league

games—all of the aforementioned information follows.

Considering the aforementioned links, it raises the question of whether Sunderland ought to try to sell Hume this

summer and, if so, for what transfer money.

Below, a few of our FLW writers have talked about those topics.

This summer, Sunderland shouldn’t be aggressively trying to sell Trai Hume.

This season, the 22-year-old has been dependable and steady for the Black Cats,

demonstrating his exceptional skill as a player for the team.

But with five teams reportedly interested in signing him, Sunderland might as well accept that they will lose him

regardless of their own preferences.

If so, the club’s top priority should be to sign him for a substantial transfer fee that will enable them to turn a profit.

Considering they only paid £200,000 for him when they bought him from Linfield in January 2022,

that shouldn’t be too hard.

With five clubs interested in the deal, three of which are Premier League teams, Sunderland will be hoping for a

bidding war and should be aiming for a minimum of £8 million.

They are well-positioned to accomplish that because Hume has a deal with the team through 2027.

Trai Hume may have only cost Sunderland about £200,000 to sign,

but they need to be asking for a hefty price to let him depart this summer.

There will be a lot of money entering their coffers in the next window,

since Jack Clarke is expected to be sold for at least £15 million, if not £20 million.

The Black Cats are in a good bargaining position because of this,

Hume’s contract, which extends until 2027, and the fact that he is drawing interest from two Championship teams

and three Premier League teams who might play in the top division next season. Hume is still only 22 years old.

The best course of action would be to hold off on making any moves,

believing that Hume would only get better as he develops.

However, every player has a price, and the defender might find it difficult to decline the opportunity to transfer to

the top division.

The Northern Irishman has been versatile during his time at the Stadium of Light and has been incredibly impressive this season.

If Sunderland is forced to cash in, you have to assume they will look for more than £5 million for the defender,

possibly even eight figures with add-ons.
