Derek Ferguson would rather Rangers buy Motherwell’s Lennon Miller than Aberdeen’s Connor Barron this summer.

Steven Davis has retired, Jose Cifuentes has already left, and Ryan Jack may be on his way out,

making the Light Blues a possible destination for both young players.

Ferguson, an ex-Ibrox midfielder, concedes that both are outstanding youths in his former position,

but Fir Park adolescent Miller is regarded as one of the brightest talents in Scottish football,

giving him an advantage over his Pittodrie opponent Barron.

And he believes it is possible for the Light Blues to reach an agreement that is agreeable to both parties.

Ferguson told Ibrox News exclusively: “Barron, like Lennon Miller, is an undeniably talented player.

“Trying to compare the two of them. I just think Lennon is a better all-around player, whereas Connor lacks a little defensively.

But that’s why you play on a team, so your teammates can cover for you in specific areas.

“Listen, they are unquestionably two good young boys. If I had to choose between the two,

I’d go with Lennon Miller every day. I just think there is a lot to enjoy about him.

“You have a better chance with Lennon. With Motherwell, a deal might be done that benefits both Motherwell and Rangers.

“I’d be inclined to go more down that route.”

Is it time for the Rangers to make a play for the Fir Park star?

Philippe Clement’s preparations for the summer transfer window are expected to be comprehensive after taking over midseason

and trying to resurrect an uneven group that appeared to have been left weakened for Michael Beale’s summer arrival.

A lot of the additions have developed as vital players for the Belgian,

but despite the possibility of a domestic treble with the present squad, the manager will undoubtedly want to make additional changes.

Mohamed Diomande’s big-money arrival in January capped a window in which a big-name striker was expected,

however a deal for Lawrence Shankland remains possible.

John Lundstram appears to be remaining, but Jack’s prospective departure will leave a space,

albeit Miller may be worth allowing to develop for longer at Motherwell, and a deal might yet see him loaned back to Fir Park.
