Ianis Hagi is expected to leave Rangers permanently, with Galatasaray apparently close to signing the midfielder.

Steven Gerrard brought the 25-year-old to Ibrox on an initial loan agreement from Philippe Clement’s former club Genk in January 2020,

before completing a permanent move ahead of the following season.

The Romania international scored eight goals in 48 outings as Rangers won the Premiership in 2021,

but has since been plagued by injuries, appearing in only 13 games over the last two years.

Hagi, who is under contract in Govan until 2026, joined La Liga side Alaves on a season-long loan last summer but has battled with consistency, scoring just two goals and assisting once in 24 outings for the mid-table team.

According to Turkish publication Aksam, the playmaker has “completed” a move to Istanbul giants Galatasaray,

where his renowned father Gheorghe won numerous trophies between 1996 and 2001, including a stunning UEFA Cup victory in 2000.

The Turkish-born player has five goals in 33 Romanian caps since his debut in 2018, and he hopes to reach his country’s EUROS squad next year.

Romania is in Group B with Belgium, Slovakia, and Ukraine, and they will be hoping to advance to the knockout rounds.

Hagi isn’t the only Rangers player linked with a move to the Super Lig; midfielder John Lundstram is also expected to join Trabzonspor this summer. Ridvan Yilmaz, a full back, was allegedly close to returning to Galatasaray in the January transfer window.
