After parting ways with Michael Beale, Sunderland is searching for an experienced former Premier League manager to take over in their empty role.

After sMichael Dodd was only ever meant to be a short-term replacement, the Championship team is searching for a long-term manager.

On Monday, the Black Cats, who are presently in 12th place in the Championship, take on Blackburn Rovers, who are in 19th place.

After firing Michael Beale and installing Michael Dodds as interim manager, Sunderland is looking for stability heading into the last stretch of the current season and the 2024–25 campaign.

Beale took over as Black Cats manager shortly before Christmas, but he was unhappy with things going on behind the scenes. He left the team after leading it to just two victories in his twelve games, even though he had signed a contract that would have expired at the end of the 2025–2026 campaign.

According to The Sun, Paul Heckingbottom, the former manager of Sheffield United, has emerged as the front-runner for the managerial position.

Heckingbottom is viewed by the Championship team as a suitable applicant for the role.

Nevertheless, Heckingbottom’s recruitment is contingent upon his readiness to conform to Sunderland’s present strategy and organizational design.

Heckingbottom, who had conversed with Sunderland prior to Beale’s hiring, might find that this time the timing is favorable.

As a manager, Heckingbottom has led Sheffield United to promotion to the Premier League in 2023.

In December, he was let go from his position, and Chris Wilder took over. Sheffield United is currently seven points behind safety at the bottom of the Premier League table despite their best efforts.
