The transfer of Luton Town striker John McAtee has been linked to Sunderland and a number of their Championship opponents.

During the summer transfer window, Sunderland acquired four strikers: Nazairy Rusyn, Mason Burstow, Elizier Mayenda, and Luis Hemir Semedo.

But in the first half of the season, none of the four players have scored more than one goal between them.

This has sparked rumors that, as Sunderland competes for a top-six Championship position,

transfer chiefs Kristjaan Speakman and Stuart Harvey would utilize the January window to bolster the club’s forward lineup with talent and experience.

And now McAtee, who is presently on loan from Premier League team Luton Town to Barnsley in League One,

has been linked to the Black Cats. However, recent sources have also stated that Plymouth Argyle, celtics, and rangers may possibly be interested.

It is believed that Sunderland and their Championship opponents would be interested in keeping the attacker on loan till the end of the current campaign.

The 24-year-old is the older brother of James McAtee, a footballer at Sheffield United, and can play as a striker or an attacking midfielder.

The striker’s parent club Luton is reportedly eager to see what their man can achieve at a higher level.

The striker has scored nine goals and contributed three assists for The Tykes so far this season.

With Championship clubs showing interest in McAtee, there is much speculation that The Hatters will terminate McAtee’s loan at Barnsley early.

Nazariy Rusyn has been Sunderland’s starting forward in recent weeks, but it’s believed the team is open to adding more offensive alternatives during the season.
