SEALED DEAL: £22.9m Celtic star striker wins ‘huge’ contract verdict from the EPL.

The highly regarded Hoops midfielder Matt O’Riley isn’t capable of playing at a higher level than he is at the moment, according to former West Ham and Celtic attacker Frank McAvennie.

O’Riley has become one of the most sought-after players in the Scottish Premiership in recent seasons, and Brendan Rodgers battled valiantly to retain the player at the team in the January transfer window despite well-documented interest from Atletico Madrid, a major transfer destination in Spain.

According to reports from Sky Sports at the time, Celtic rejected a first loan bid that contained a summer purchase obligation for an amount rumored to be in the neighborhood of £22.9 million.

“Matt is a player we don’t want to lose and he won’t be going anywhere in January,” Rodgers said to reporters at the time.
