Rangers will regret if they let go of Cyriel Dessers – As Fulham offer escape route for the hated striker

Gers may have to sell the likes of Cyriel Dessers before they can start to sign players like Hearts attacker Lawrence Shankland for the Gers, according to transfer insider Dean Jones.

Philippe Clement has had a great start in Glasgow since taking over as Rangers’ head coach in October 2023, and he aims to fight for the Scottish Premiership title.

The Gers have also advanced to the Europa League’s last-16 after defeating a difficult group that contained Real Betis from La Liga and Czech giants Sparta Prague.

Rangers might use the 2024 winter transfer window to contend on three fronts for the rest of the 2023/24 season.

Cyriel Dessers struggles at Rangers

Rangers needed a comprehensive rebuild at Ibrox after losing several experienced players during the summer transfer window in 2023.

The Gers made nine additions to their team in the market,

seeking to challenge domestic triple holders Celtic for the Scottish Premiership title coming season.

One of the acquisitions was Cyriel Dessers, who joined Ibrox from Cremonese for £4.5 million.

The 29-year-old had ten goals and three assists in 32 appearances during the 2022/23 season but intended to take his game to the next level in the Scottish Premiership.

However, Dessers has struggled to adjust since his arrival in Scotland, scoring only six goals in 17 top-flight outings.

Rangers may attempt to find a way out of Ibrox for the four-cap Nigeria international, if any offers come their way.

The transfer of Dessers may allow the Gers to pursue the signing of Hearts centre-forward Shankland.

Rangers are reportedly working on a deal to sign the 28-year-old Scotland international after their failed bid to recruit Fenerbahce No. 9 Michy Batshuayi.

Shankland, the Scottish Premiership’s current leading goalscorer with 13 goals, is also reported to be seriously considering a move to Ibrox.

Last month (December 24th, 2023), Jones told GIVEMESPORT that the Hearts star has fueled the speculation fire by liking a Rangers post on social media.

The Glasgow giants have already made their first signing of 2024, securing the loan acquisition of Wolverhampton Wanderers centre-forward Fabio Silva until the end of the 2023/24 season.
