Celtic have provided an encouraging report on the fitness of three key players ahead of Sunday’s trip to Livingston,

which comes just one week before the critical top-of-the-table meeting with Rangers at Ibrox next weekend.

Callum McGregor, Reo Hatate, and Cameron Carter-Vickers have all been out of play recently, with fears that captain McGregor,

who was left out of the most recent Scotland team, will be sidelined for an extended period of time owing to an achilles/ankle injury.

However, during a Celtic TV interview with manager Brendan Rodgers, it was revealed that the midfielder is set for a “imminent” return, while Hatate, who has been out since injured his hamstring on international duty with Japan in January, is also nearing a return. Carter-Vickers has struggled with injuries this season, but he came through a 3-1 win over St Johnstone prior to the international break unscathed and has trained throughout.

Speaking about the trio ahead of their trip to Livingston, Rodgers said: “We have clearly been bringing guys back,

which is fantastic. Fingers crossed that we’ll all be back before the conclusion of the international break.

Then we’ll all be prepared and embraced for an extremely exciting run-in. I believe that any game in this division may be challenging,

but it all comes down to how you play, and our focus will be on ourselves.

“Of course, it would be nice if they were available. Each one is certainly unique,

but having the knowledge and experience to cope with it [title run-in] can be really beneficial.

I believe the three guys named are clearly very influential for the squad.

So, it  will be great to have them back and available.”

Celtic lead the Scottish Premiership with one point over Rangers, despite having played one more game.
