Derek Ferguson is perplexed as to why Rangers have not yet made a real effort to get Lennon Miller from Motherwell.

The former Ibrox midfielder says the teenager is “without a doubt” one of Scotland’s brightest young prospects,

and he is exactly the type of player the Light Blues should be looking for.

He believes the club has been “guilty” of overlooking outstanding local talent and is unhappy that there have been no real steps in this pursuit for over a year, despite Miller, 17, being on their radar.

The BBC Sport expert exclusively told Ibrox News: “I sometimes scratch my head. I’ve been aware of this boy for almost a year now.

“that, from the Rangers’ perspective, why would you leave it that long? You’d be contacting Motherwell to arrange some sort of deal.

“You want to sign the greatest young players in Scotland, and I believe we have fallen short of that goal.

“But Lennon Miller is one of the best young prospects in Scottish football without a doubt,

so why Rangers have not already tried to tie that deal up I’m not so sure.”

Could the Rangers sign Fir Park sensation?

The volatility of managers over the past three seasons at Ibrox could be a contributing factor,

as this season has showed how transfer plans come and go,

with Sam Lammers and Jose Cifuentes both signed by Michael Beale and shortly leaving under Philippe Clement.

It’s possible that, like some, the Ibrox management believes Miller is too young to join the club and would be better served developing further at Motherwell, which is quite understandable as long as he doesn’t move elsewhere.

If Rangers are going to try to sign the best Scottish talent, they should at least contact Stuart Kettlewell’s side about an agreement that permits him to stay at Fir Park for the time being, otherwise it may be too late.
