Update: Rocco Vata’s Celtic future takes turn as Everton join transfer race

There has been an update on the future of Celtic’s rising sensation Rocco Vata, who is expected to be a free agent this summer.

Vata’s future is in danger after Celtic breakthrough.

Rocco Vata, an 18-year-old striker, got into the Celtic first squad last season, making four games in the Scottish Premiership, and he expects that this season will be his breakthrough.

However, things haven’t gone as planned, and he has only received two first-team appearances to far, one in the Scottish Premiership and one in the Scottish Cup. Adam Idah’s January arrival at Celtic Park moved the kid down the pecking order, and he has struggled for opportunities.

Kyogo Furuhashi 30 10
Adam Idah 7 5

Rodgers remained interested in the attacker, praising him after his goal against Buckie Thistle in a 5-0 victory: “I like Rocco. He possesses attributes. He is strong and aggressive, and he loves to score from the 25 yard line. Even when he came on, he scored a goal and had a few other opportunities. That’s great for him; he has a taste for it.”

Unfortunately for Rodgers, it appears that Vata did not get as much of a taste as he would have liked this year, and now teams are circling him ahead of a key summer in the youngster’s developing career.

Toffees are tracking prospective free transfers.

Given their financial situation, it’s no surprise that Everton is seeking for methods to outwit the market this summer, and they might have just found one. That comes as the Toffees have been listed as one of the clubs targeting Vata, who is out of contract with the Glasgow giants this summer and has yet to sign new terms.

The striker scored a hat-trick during the international break to assist the Republic of Ireland U21s defeat San Marino’s U21s 7-0, and he has been in fantastic form for Celtic’s youth team this season, scoring 12 goals in 15 appearances.

Still only 18 years old, recent rumors suggested that a new deal had been proposed to keep Vata at Celtic Park until 2028, but that the parties were ‘very distant’ from an agreement since ‘the original offer fell short of the expectations from the player’s side.

According to TeamTalk journalist Harry Watkinson, Everton is one of’several’ clubs ‘keeping eyes’ on the teenager ahead of a possible summer transfer. Sean Dyche’s side has plenty of strikers, with Dominic Calvert-Lewin as the top choice and summer signings Beto and Youssef Chermiti as backup possibilities.

They do, however, lack strikers who know where the back of the net is. The trio has only five Premier League goals between them (Calvert-Lewin three, Beto two), and their lack of skill in front of goal has been a big contributor to Everton’s troubles this season.

Given his apparent skill, his departure would be a significant blow for Celtic, but given that he has yet to be given a first-team opportunity for Brendan Rodgers’ side in the Scottish Premiership, it’s easy to see why he would want to move away and seek regular first-team minutes elsewhere.
