Sunderland set to sack Interim manager Mike Dodds as owner Kyril Louis-Dreyfus and sporting detector Kristjaan Speakman both agree on former FIFA U-17 World Cup winner

An emerging Sunderland manager claim is sure to erode fans’ trust ahead of a challenging summer.

Make no mistake; Sunderland just have to get this next manager appointment right.

Following a mixed 2023/24 season, owner Kyril Louis-Dreyfus and sporting analyst Kristjaan Speakman put a lot of faith in their fans.

Everything was going well until Sunderland sacked Tony Mowbray last year.

Following the Michael Beale saga, Mike Dodds has been tasked with picking up the pieces,

which has proven to be far more difficult than anyone expected.

A difficult season has also brought to light some questionable player recruitment,

so there will be a lot of changes to make this summer.

Sunderland plans to hire a new manager in the summer.

Dodds has been put in charge until the summer.

It appeared that Dodds had a chance of getting the permanent position if he performed well,

but he has yet to win in five games, and a fresh face is appearing increasingly likely to step in.

Several names continue to be mentioned, including Will Still and Steve Cooper,

while Sunderland are also associated with Sheffield Wednesday manager Danny Rohl.

And the club just had a Supporters’ Collective meeting, from which the minutes were issued, with the exception:

“In response to a question on the Head Coach appointment process,

the Club highlighted the importance of the process, but referenced that it does not guarantee the right outcome.”

Fans should examine the reasoning process behind the management hunt.

The Beale appointment revealed that Louis-Dreyfus and Speakman may not have the best sense of character and what, or who,

would work well with the audience.

Beale’s stint was a disaster both on and off the field,

and this newest snippet from the meeting reveals that the board is not entirely confident in their approach to the managerial search.

Given this, Sunderland fans will find it difficult to have faith in the club’s managerial process if the club does not believe in what they are doing.

Without a doubt, a successful 2024/25 season with improved player recruiting and a long-term management would alleviate the existing concerns, both among supporters and seemingly behind the scenes.

However, the consequences of another dismal season, window, and managerial selection might be disastrous for Sunderland.

The Black Cats return to Championship action by traveling to Cardiff City on Friday.
