Everton Latest:Former Everton manager revealed club could face point deduction with reasons
According to former Everton manager Keith Wyness, Everton needs to make compromises in their current points
deduction case because of the ongoing conflict in Ukraine.
The 66-year-old, who ran a football consultancy advising elite clubs after serving as CEO of Goodison Park from
2004 to 2009, stated he “can’t believe” the conflict was considered a “day-to-day occurrence” in the Toffee’s first case
in an interview with Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast.
In their first hearing for violating the Profitability and Sustainability Regulations (PSR) last year (2023), Everton
used the war in Ukraine, which broke out in 2022, as a mitigating factor. However, an independent panel dismissed
the argument.
Due to the disagreement, the Toffees cut off business relations with USM, the company owned by Alisher Usmanov,
which had 15 business agreements with the club.
In addition, Everton was not awarded a £200 million naming rights agreement by the firm for its upcoming new
stadium, which is scheduled to open for play in 2025–2026.
Wyness demanded that any new panel ruling on the club’s possible punishment in its second hearing for violating
PSR take these facts into account.
He stated on the Insider Track podcast of Football Insider: “I don’t think the Premier League has anything to stand
on right now.
“I believe any panel would view the mitigating considerations for Everton surrounding the war in Ukraine
differently.
“I find it unbelievable that during the previous hearing, that was considered a regular occurrence.
That is not at all how the war in Ukraine is.
“I believe that well in advance of the season’s conclusion, the Premier League will be eager to receive a resolution on
the Everton and Forest issues.
“I don’t think they’ll penalize Everton too harshly this time.”
