The SPL has charged Celtic and Rangers for allegedly breaking the Profitability and Sustainability Rules.

Rangers and the Gers currently lead the Scottish Premier League, with one game remaining. Should financial laws be found to have been broken, both teams could lose points, but not this season.

The Scottish Premier League sent Celtic and Rangers FC to an independent commission on March 21 for allegedly breaking the Profitability and Sustainability Rules (PSRs) and failing to provide the League with audited financial documents, according to a statement from the league.

“The alleged breach pertains to the assessment period ending in the 2022–2023 season. The independent Commission will set the timeline for the proceedings, and it will publish its final decision on the Scottish Premier League website.”

The previous season’s Celtic and Rangers finances, which will be released later this month, are anticipated to reveal that they surpassed the £105 million in losses permitted for the preceding three seasons, according to a report from Sky Sports on Tuesday.

Neither club will lose points this season, even though it is possible for a club to be punished in the Scottish Premier League for breaking rules.

The Scottish Premier League decided to use new protocols to expedite financial violations last summer.

In addition, the timelines for forming an impartial disciplinary committee, hearing the matter, and rendering a verdict—all with the clubs’ potential to challenge any punishment—suggest that the case will drag on well into the summer.
