Breaking news:Rangers target turns down new contract as Gers push for cut-price

A recent development at FC Twente seems to have increased Rangers’ prospects of securing a star on a cheap contract as they strive to

sign a left defender in the last days of the January transfer window.

For the Ibrox club, left back is presently a position of uncertainty. Borna Barisic has six months left on his deal, while champions

Galatasaray are supposedly leading the battle to acquire Ridvan Yilmaz. Meanwhile,

James Tavernier has informed Rangers he wants a transfer  amid a £10M Saudi move

rumors about Yilmaz returning to Turkey has

been swirling about.According to TeamTalk, FC Twente star Gijs Smal is one player the Rangers recruitment staff is reportedly

considering. Since joining the Dutch team in 2020, the 26-year-old left back has made 87 league appearances in the top division while

tallying four goals.

With his current contract about to expire in June, he may be spending his final season with the Eredivisie team. He is now in his

fourth season there.

The defender is reportedly highly regarded by FC Twente, according to reports from Voetbal International, but his future is still up in

the air because he declined the opportunity to sign a new, long-term contract.
