Cincinnati Bengals wide receiver Tyler Boyd soon to be welcomed by kansas city chiefs
Tyler Boyd, a wide receiver with the Cincinnati Bengals, has received some less attention during the free agent
period. Despite a solid career of fruitful performance, the former second-round pick is still unsigned and serves as
the third option in a high-octane passing offense. As Andy Dalton’s primary option, the receiver posted consecutive
1,000-yard seasons in 2018 and 2019.
Boyd naturally lost prominence after Joe Burrow, Tee Higgins, and Ja’Marr Chase arrived in the area. Although Boyd
isn’t as outstanding as the two receivers described earlier, the three of them made up what was perhaps the best trio
in football. Tyler Boyd, a free agent who is about to be thirty, may not have another 1,000-yard season in him, but he
can still be an 800-yard receiver in a situation where there isn’t as much competition for targets.
The Pittsburgh Steelers appeared to be set to sign Tyler Boyd as a free agent last week. However, it appears that this
deal might not go through based on a recent report by Mark Kaboly of The Athletic. Although Boyd might still sign
with Pittsburgh, there are apparently considerable efforts from two other teams to sign him.
It’s shocking to learn that certain team members oppose signing Tyler Boyd as a free agent because the Pittsburgh
Steelers are in desperate need of wide receivers. Boyd is more than capable of splitting targets with tight end Pat
Freiermuth, and George Pickens can be the best option in the passing game. Though this is just conjecture, the
Steelers might be concerned about how Boyd’s preference for working over the middle will combine with Russell
Wilson’s past distaste for these routes.
The Kansas City Chiefs and the New York Jets are the other two teams attempting to sign Tyler Boyd as a free agent.
The Jets, like the Steelers, are in dire need of an additional wide receiver to support Garrett Wilson. With Marquise
Brown available to extend the deep side of the field, the Chiefs aren’t as desperate, but they might still benefit from
an alternative.
The Tyler Boyd lottery is likely to get more competitive after Mike Williams leaves the free agent pool. Among the
teams connected to the former Chargers are the Steelers and Jets; whichever team decides not to acquire Williams
may wind up with Boyd as a consolation prize.
