Due to his ongoing injury recovery, Rangers winger Ross McCausland will not play for Northern Ireland in their forthcoming friendly against Romania.

The 20-year-old McCausland has excelled in his breakout season with the Light Blues and was awarded his first senior cap for his nation in November of last year.

Despite hobbling off in Rangers’ Scottish Cup quarterfinal victory over Hibernian, his strong form ensured he was called up again ahead of the most recent international double header, where Northern Ireland play Romania and Scotland.
McCausland and defender Jamal Lewis, who is on loan at Watford from Newcastle, have subsequently returned to their respective clubs for treatment, according to national team manager Michael O’Neill, and they will not participate in the opening friendly.

O’Neill, though, is optimistic that the two will not be sidelined for long and may even be available for Tuesday’s match against Scotland at Hampden Park.

“Hopefully, Ross and Jamal will join us when we arrive in Scotland for the second game,” he stated, adding that they have returned to respective clubs for treatment.
