Rangers: SPFL sanctions are now likely following events in Dundee

The Scottish Daily Mail reports that Dundee could face disciplinary action from the SPFL after their match against Rangers on March 17 was called off because of the condition of the ground at Dens Park.

According to the newspaper’s print edition [19 March, back page],

the Rangers game was the fourth one to be postponed this season, and as a result, the team is expected to suffer a lot.

The regulation requiring each club to make sure the playing field is in excellent shape and has a functional drainage system would lead to such penalty.

Rangers are having problems because of the postponement of Dundee.

Chris Jack stated that the game will have to be played the week before the upcoming Old Firm derby,

or the away trip to Ross County, which could be challenging for them,

as a result of the game being postponed this weekend.

Meanwhile, Chris Sutton insisted that it was embarrassing to have to postpone games in the top division of Scottish football so close to kickoff and that it wouldn’t occur in any other elite league in Europe.

Philippe Clement would have preferred to have had a week to prepare before the next Old Firm match,

given how fiercely contested the title fight has been this season.

However, if the Dundee game is scheduled for midweek, their plans may be affected.

The fact that Celtic have surged back to the top of the league after playing one extra game could provide another damage to Rangers’ hopes of winning the championship.

Rangers will now have to play catch-up once more as the pressure mounts.
