After a second pitch inspection at 10:15 GMT, the surface was declared unplayable for a noon start.

Due to excessive rain, Dens Park has had to postpone four games this season.

“A number of areas on the pitch are unsafe for players; the ball wasn’t rolling in these areas,”

referee Don Robertson told BBC Scotland.

Rangers said they were not aware of any problems until the morning and are disappointed about the disruption to the visiting supporters,

A statement from the club read: “Rangers FC, on behalf of our supporters, are extremely disappointed and angered with the late call-off.”

The statement went on, “Given the recurring problems the home club has had with their playing surface at earlier points in the season,

it is not understood why they did not voice concerns sooner.”

By the time a decision was made, many of our followers and the Rangers squad had already arrived at the stadium.

“This is the only match in the entire UK senior leagues to be postponed this weekend, and given it was to be shown on Sky Sports nationwide, reflects poorly on our game.”

In agreement, Ibrox manager Philippe Clement told BBC Scotland,

“It’s a really bad advertisement for the league.”

“Because our kit man arrived early, he had to find out there was an issue. That’s

but they still have a game in hand.

Dundee, who are currently eighth in the standings, have lost their two prior encounters with Rangers this season.

“We were supposed to get 6mm of rain overnight, and we got 12,” Nelms said to BBC Scotland

. We’ve had the groundskeepers here since 5:00, and we’re almost out of time.

The field would most likely be playable if the game was at three o’clock.”
