Celtic has dashed Yuki Kobayashi’s aspirations of returning to Japan on loan.

The J-League squad Kashima Antlers coveted the Hoops misfit, who hasn’t played for the first team since Brendan Rodgers arrived in June.

Although there still seems to be no way back for the 23-year-old defender, the champions have opted against switching, despite their eagerness to bring in the center-back on a nine-month temporary agreement, according to a Daily Record story.

After his contract with Vissel Kobe expired in January 2022, Kobayashi signed a five-year contract at Parkhead. During Ange Postecoglou’s tenure as manager last term, Kobayashi made five appearances. But after the 4-2 loss to Hibs at Easter Road in May—which followed a lackluster performance in a 3-0 loss at Ibrox—he vanished from the inaugural team photo.

This time, the player has not shown up, and both reversal happened after the title had been confirmed.

Major League Soccer teams Dallas and Real Salt Lake, as well as the Finnish team HJK Helsinki, have expressed interest in signing Kobayashi, but the Hoops also vetoed those transactions.

A move to Harry Kewell’s Yokohama F Marinos was also denied approval.
