Following an injury scare, Ollie Watkins speaks out, while Douglas Luiz sends a strong warning to Aston Villa.

Aston Villa defeated Ajax at Villa Park on Thursday night, advancing to the European quarterfinals for the first time since 1998.

Diego Carlos, Ollie Watkins, and Douglas Luiz have all spoken out on social media in the wake of Aston Villa’s thrilling 4-0 victory over Ajax. On Thursday night at Villa Park, Unai Emery’s team easily defeated the Dutch powerhouses, securing their spot in the Europa Conference League quarterfinals.

In the following round, the Villans and LOSC Lille will square off; the first leg is scheduled for next month. Following Villa’s first European quarterfinal appearance since 1998, Watkins, Luiz, and Carlos celebrated the milestone with Instagram photos.

After sustaining a knee injury just after the half-hour mark, Jhon Duran took the place of the England international, who had opened the scoring against Ajax. After the game, Emery gave reporters a positive update on Watkins.

“It’s just a cut on the knee at first,” the Spaniard remarked. We’ll have to wait and see if he is available on Sunday.”

Pau Torres, Emiliano Martinez, and Lucas Digne also celebrated the historic evening on Instagram with joyful posts. Emery will now lead Villa against the Irons after spending a few days on the Bodymoor Heath training fields.

Watkins was doubtful for the weekend, therefore Duran, who had just returned from rehab, got the chance to make an impression on his management. In response to the young player’s performance against Ajax, Emery stated, “We always try to support and practice with Jon Duran during training sessions.”

“It’s excellent for him to play after a two-month injury. He needs to be given opportunities to play. Today was excellent exercise for him as we work to strengthen him.”

Then, Emery continued, “Carlos felt a hamstring a little bit,” referring to the way he seemed to adjust a muscular problem. We are going to have to wait. He is crucial to our organization.”
