Everton: 777 Partners ties to Russian oligarchs emerge after meeting with Premier League
According to Josimar, 777 Partners has done business with a Russian businessman accused of close ties to Vladmir Putin and the Kremlin in order to obtain a takeover of Everton.
The investigative football journalism organization claimed on its website on Wednesday (13 March) that the US investment firm’s initial step into club ownership was funded by Oleg Boyko,
who was sanctioned by Ukraine, Canada, and Australia in 2022 for alleged Kremlin ties.
It stated that the Moscow-born oligarch became an indirect investor in 777-owned Seville in 2018 after offering a $10 million loan (£7.81 million).
Josimar said that, while the business continues to assert that Premier League clearance for its Goodison Park takeover is imminent,
there are “no tangible signs of progress” on the deal following its latest meeting with the governing body.
When asked about the report’s assertions, 777 declined to comment.
Uneasy feeling about 777 takeover at Everton
There are simply too many suspicions regarding 777, as these latest claims add to a long series of reports that have surfaced in recent months.
The claims have varied from its credit rating being downgraded to suspicions that it has skipped many payments,
and now there are links to a Russian tycoon.
That will not sit well with the Premier League, and the government is sure to be concerned given its approach to oligarchs in the UK following the Ukraine crisis.
There hasn’t been much spoken since the firm met with the governing body last week, but the silence isn’t a good indication for the organization.
While Toffees fans are desperate to see Farhad Moshiri leave,
it appears that there are more questions than answers about whether 777 is truly the solution to their prayers at Goodison.
