One of the rumoured suitors for a top free-agent running back is the Dallas Cowboys.
The Dallas Cowboys decided not to seek any high-profile upgrades when legal tampering opened, and they have since made it obvious that they will be bargain hunters in free agency.

With many of the top and second-tier targets having already signed contracts, the Cowboys will need to spend Day 3 sorting through the remaining prospects.

A few big names are still without new homes right now, and it seems Dallas is interested in signing one of those players.

Now that most players at his position are gone, RB A.J. Dillon is considering his options, according to a report from NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport on Wednesday morning.

The Cowboys, New York Giants, and Indianapolis Colts were all suggested by Rapoport as potential destinations for the former Green Bay Packer.

To be honest, Dillon doesn’t exactly seem like an RB1 prospect. With averages of 4.3, 4.1, and a lacklustre 3.7 yards per carry over the previous three seasons, he is hardly the most effective rusher.

Because of this, he has never been able to reach the 1,000-yard mark on the ground.

But given how the market for running backs has dried up, Dillon is suddenly one of the better alternatives left for a team that needs RBs badly.

He might even reach new heights in a featured role, where he wouldn’t have to share touches with a Pro Bowl player like Aaron Jones.

Dallas only needs a backfield leader, and Dillon is one of the few remaining reliable starters.

Given his depth of interest, the Cowboys need to move quickly to strengthen this squad lacking in talent.
