Complete Shambles: A new Ibrox development omits four ranger stars
Gareth Southgate’s selection of Rangers goalkeeper Jack Butland for his Three Lions team has been called a
“complete shambles” by Four Lads Had a Dream.
For international friendlies against Brazil and Belgium at Wembley, the Ibrox stopper was tipped by Sky Sports on
March 13 to earn a comeback to Southgate’s England side after more than five years.
The Four Lads were displeased with the Three Lions manager’s decision to select Arsenal’s Ramsdale and Crystal
Palace’s Sam Johnstone above Butland, and they expressed their displeasure almost immediately after the selection
announcement was announced.
On Thursday, March 14, they wrote on X, stating: “Ramsdale been picked over Jack Butland absolute shambles.”
Will Jack Butland of Rangers be a member of Gareth Southgate’s squad come Euro 2024?
Although all of Michael Beale’s summer acquisitions at Ibrox have appeared to be deceptive when wearing a Rangers
jersey, Butland has improved since moving to Glasgow and is unquestionably among the top three keepers in
England.
As Philippe Clement’s team has advanced in the Scottish Premiership and made an impression in the Europa
League, the 31-year-old is yet to have a poor game while wearing a Light Blue shirt.
Jordan Pickford is fighting to avoid relegation at Everton, Johnstone has been in and out of the Palace squad,
and Ramsdale is stuck on the Gunners’ bench; Butland is the only English goalkeeper playing consistently in Europe.
Though it is difficult to see how the Rangers keeper will make England’s squad for the Euro 2024 considering that
this was Southgate’s final roster before to the competition this summer, perhaps the keeper will be rewarded with an
international recall sooner rather than later.
