HITC understands that Glasgow Rangers skipper James Tavernier is still a target for the Saudi Pro League, including Steven Gerrard’s Al-Ettifaq.

The 32-year-old has become a Rangers icon during his time at Ibrox, scoring 122 goals and assisting 127 times in all competitions while playing right-back.

This season, with Philippe Clement’s side leading the Scottish Premiership table, James Tavernier has 14 goals and eight assists.

In addition, he scored the game’s only goal as Rangers defeated Aberdeen in the League Cup final in December.

James Tavernier & Steven Gerrard

HITC can tell that Steven Gerrard, who attempted to sign Tavernier last summer, is still keen on attracting him to Al-Ettifaq. However, we understand that there is interest among the PIF-owned teams.

Tavernier won his sole Scottish Premiership title under Gerrard’s leadership during the 2020/21 season, stopping fierce rivals Celtic from winning the ten.

The Englishman is now seeking to lead The Gers to another league title, but he is also attracting interest from a number of Saudi clubs.

Steven Gerrard in the Saudi Professional League

In 2021, Gerrard answered the Premier League appeal and accepted the Aston Villa position while remaining in the Rangers dugout, which proved to be a disaster.

The renowned midfielder was fired within a year, and his path has subsequently brought him to the burgeoning Saudi Pro League.

He took over as manager of Al-Ettifaq in July and has struggled for huge stretches of the season, with only three wins in his past four league games, leaving his team sixth in the table.
