Breaking News: 10-goals youngster has signed a lucrative four-year contract with Celtic

Since his return last summer, Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers has taken aggressive steps to protect his current great players by signing long-term contracts at Parkhead.

The Irishman has already taken steps to ensure the futures of Reo Hatate, Kyogo Furuhashi, Matt O’Riley, and Cameron Carter-Vickers, among others, as he seeks to build for the future in Glasgow’s east end.

Maintaining the flow of domestic talent is also a priority for Rodgers, who has shown a desire to promote young players into the senior ranks.

He claimed in January, “I am conscious here. I want to stay here for a while, as long as I’m successful, and I also want to provide opportunities for future players to come through.”

Daniel Kelly would fall into that category, given his recent participation with the first-team squad, which has prompted Celtic to offer the 18-year-old a new deal in the wake of interest from Bundesliga powers RB Leipzig and Bayer Leverkusen.

Scotland Under-19 International Kelly’s current contract expires in the summer, and it appears that he is close to negotiating an extension at Parkhead, despite concerns about his future.

Since making his first-team debut against Buckie Thistle earlier this year, the exceptional youngster has played four games for his hometown club and scored his first goal against Dundee [Transfermarkt].

Daniel Kelly’s contract update comes as Celtic nears renewal.

According to Sky Sports News journalist Anthony Joseph, Celtic and Kelly are ‘near to agreeing’ on a new contract, with both parties currently discussing a four-year extension.

The reporter also included a sidenote later on that may be of interest to Hoops fans, adding that talks between the Bhoys and Rocco Vata regarding a new contract haven’t’moved on any further’ at this time.

Last week, Rodgers singled out both players for special appreciation in light of his ongoing efforts to get academy products into the senior squad, saying: “You see the likes of Danny Kelly and Rocco Vata. Rocco hasn’t had many opportunities, but he’s now working with us every day, is a member of the squad, and is performing admirably.

“I’m confident other players will come through. That is the main focus of my stay here.”

Undoubtedly, Celtic must seek to enhance an integration strategy that has left much to be desired over the years.

However, Kelly’s forthcoming renewal may be a hopeful indicator of a turnaround  in tact regarding our approach to youth development.
