After much anticipation, the Dallas Cowboys signed linebacker Eric Kendricks in their first free agency class. The happy-go-lucky part of the signing is that Kendricks choose Dallas over San Francisco.

After nearly three days, the Dallas Cowboys have finally signed veteran linebacker Eric Kendricks to a free agent contract, and in the process, they have gained some revenge on their fierce NFC rivals.

Although Kendricks received a strong offer from the San Francisco 49ers, it was assumed that he would sign with them. However, the lure of rejoining his old head coach, Mike “I’m Not A Jerk,” Zimmer, proved to be too much.

This is a one-year contract, and Dallas received a little prod for its glacier-slow free agency process.

He’s a good guy,” stated Zimmer (via NFL Network’s Jane Slater) regarding the hiring process, which reportedly took the entire Tuesday. intuitive and astute. Excellent coverage and familiarity with the system. It lasted the entire day. I believe he was eager to be present.

After an ACL injury, Leighton Vander Esch’s future is questionable, and DeMarvion Overshown is an unknown commodity, Kendricks fills perhaps one of Dallas’ biggest needs at linebacker. The Cowboys needed bodies, and they got one in Kendricks.

With over 100 tackles in his last eight seasons, Kendricks is an absolute beast at the tackle position.

Even while that statistic may be a little deceptive,

his play from the previous season with the Chargers shows that he still has excellent instincts when it comes to the run game.

While we certainly hope that Kendricks’ actions on the field will be advantageous,

what he can do to mentor Dallas’ young linebacking core—Overshown and Damone Clark—may prove to be even more significant.

Not to mention that Kendricks can help with the new language, which might make the adjustment easier for those in Zimmer’s defense.
