Andy Walker makes ‘strange’ claim about Brendan Rodgers and the Celtic board
The history of Brendan Rodgers‘ relationship with the Celtic board during his initial tenure is widely known.
During his tenure as manager, the Irishman’s relationship with the Hoops administration was extremely tense.
Rodgers was so certain in his decision to join Leicester City and leave the team that he didn’t hesitate to take it in 2019.
Five years later, the Celtic manager is back, and judging by the effort the team made to sign him in the summer,
you would assume that Rodgers and the Hoops board had moved on and that the past was behind them.
Maybe not, if you take the advice of former Celtic forward Andy Walker.
The former radio host explains why he thinks Rodgers and the Hoops administration still have unresolved issues.
Andy Walker hints at issues between Rodgers and Celtic board
Walker said [The Go Radio Football Show], “I think they’ve made mistakes and I can’t believe the manager wasn’t listened to.
When you go and get Brendan Rodgers, I think he’s an elite manager.
“And I absolutely accept from listening, family and friends who have been to games, there’s nowhere near the level of
football that they watched under Brendan Rodgers the first time around or the last couple of years under Ange Postecoglou.
“However, you would have assumed that everything had been resolved if you were bringing someone like them back,
their past issues, and their peculiar connection with board members.
“But perhaps not.”
Look, we Celtic fans are not fools. The problems seen during the last two transfer windows appear to indicate that the recruitment
department is having trouble determining the right targets.
With the exception of Paulo Bernardo and Luis Palma, Rodgers has hardly used any of his summer acquisitions this season, which speaks for itself.
And if Walker’s advice is accurate and the Celtic manager and the board are still at odds, then one guy must intervene and resolve the matter.
The person that wanted Rodgers back at Celtic was Dermot Desmond. He took the action to trigger the comeback.
If there are issues that impede him from carrying out his duties effectively, the majority shareholder needs to be perceived as taking action to address them.
Because if Celtic don’t win the league this season there will be not only questions asked of the manager,
those upstairs will come under serious scrutiny by the supporters.
