After playing some of the top teams in the NBA for five games, the Lakers not only came out on top, but they also learned valuable lessons that will help them become the team they can be in the final stretch.

To be quite honest, when the Lakers started March, I had no idea how to evaluate the schedule of games they were going to play.

The squad was set to play five games in a row at home before heading to the state capital for a one-game clash against the Kings. However, they would then immediately return home for a further four games at home before embarking on their last, lengthy road trip of the season. A run of ten games, nine of them at home and all in the state? That’s hard to be angry about.
However, those five straight home games to start the month were against some of the league’s top teams. Four were not in favor of teams.

There wouldn’t be any gimme’s in this stretch — if there are any — with two games against the Kings, a team that hasn’t been as good as those other teams in terms of record but has caused the Lakers problems the past two seasons.

Even if the Lakers’ record is only 3-2, it is noteworthy that they have managed to emerge victorious from that initial run of games. Of course, there were many problems, especially after Denver’s defeat to the Nuggets served as a Groundhog’s Day-like reminder of how tough of a rival Denver is to play against before the Kings thrashed them in the second quarter.

It was made worse by the fact that Sacramento’s victory over the Lakers improved their record against them to 3-0 on the season and increased the gap between the clubs in the standings.

Overall though, the Lakers performed admirably. It’s also reasonable to argue that throughout the games, we gained some insight into this team’s characteristics, the kinds of teams that pose challenges for them, and the teams that they can more readily compete with in these high-stakes games.
Now that we’ve covered a few games against elite teams, let’s see what they’ve taught us about the Lakers.
