TEXANS trade 49ERS DT Maliek Collins in a breaking move
TEXANS trade 49ERS DT Maliek Collins in a breaking move
Adam Schefter of ESPN reports that a seasoned defensive lineman is leaving Space City.
For the previous three seasons, Collins—who turns 29 next month—has started at defensive tackle for the Texans. However, Collins’ talents are no longer required in Houston due to the arrival of Danielle Hunter, Denico Autry, and Foley Fatukasi via free agency.
He now plays for the 49ers, who were defeated by Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs in overtime during the Super Bowl. Maybe signing Collins will strengthen their defensive line and benefit the Niners in the long run.
The two teams’ transaction cannot be finalized until the start of the new league season at 3 p.m. CT today.
Maliek Collins, a defensive tackle, will join a new squad on Wednesday afternoon when the regular season kicks off.
The Texans and the 49ers have reached an agreement for Collins’ trade, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter. A seventh-round pick will be returned to the Texans by the 49ers.
The 49ers’ interior defensive line is in some change as Javon Kinlaw has agreed to terms with the Jets and Arik Armstead is slated to be released at the beginning of the league season. Javon Hargrave is still bound by his contract, and they have reached an agreement to work with Jordan Elliott.
Collins played all 49 regular season and postseason games during his three seasons with Houston, where he was the starting quarterback. He just finished a successful 2023 campaign for the AFC South champions, recording 43 tackles and five sacks.
