Rangers have been warned to expect interest in a summer deal for Jack Butland.
Charlie Adam worries that manager Gareth Southgate won’t be the only Englishman keeping an eye on Rangers’ number one player, Jack Butland.
When the Three Lions coach announces his team for tomorrow’s friendly against Brazil and Belgium, he may decide to include 30-year-old Butland again. However, Adam, who was teammates with the exceptional goalkeeper at Stoke City, wouldn’t be shocked if his recall sparked additional summer interest from the south.
Just six months after bringing Butland in for a steal on a free transfer, the Gers were obliged to turn down a late January bid from Nottingham Forest, a Premier League team. Adam hopes Butland stays in Glasgow for a long time because he has expressed how much he loves the city.
“I don’t see why he shouldn’t be there. His performances this year would dictate he should have the opportunity. I know how much playing for England means to him,” he said to The Scottish Sun. “Jack has been incredible. Rangers are lucky to have a top, top goalkeeper like that.”
“Ever since joining the Rangers, he has been outstanding. You also need to consider the consistently high caliber of play that he is exhibiting throughout Europe. He and Gareth have collaborated in the past. He is aware of the type of person he is meeting.
“Jack is also familiar with the goalkeeping coach there. That should help him become a little bit more of a powerful influence for the upcoming camp. You want Rangers to hang onto him, of course. I wouldn’t be shocked to see several English clubs after him in the summer.
