News Update:Stalemate reported on contract offers for Celtic duo.
Celtic have reached an impasse in their attempts to sign Liam Scales and Rocco Vata to new contracts.
The defender is under contract until May 2025, while the young forward will become a free agent in the summer,
with Celtic earning a compensation amount based on Vata’s time at the club’s academy.
I believe the club is in talks with Liam’s agency, and he is overjoyed because he is playing. I’m sure that will be
resolved in due course. It’s been a fantastic story for him.
Two months later, it appears that little significant progress has been made, as transfer specialist Scott Burns
reported in the Daily Record.
Celtic are still in talks with Liam Scales and Rocco Vata about new deals. Both parties have made offers, but no
agreement has been reached at this time.
Despite the summer arrivals of Gus Lagerbielke and Maik Nawrocki, Scales joined the Celtic defence at the end of
August and has not missed a game since, despite the team’s upheaval in that area.
That run of appearances has propelled him into the Irish international team and will undoubtedly have alerted other
clubs to his potential.
The defender, who was signed from Shamrock Rovers just after his 23rd birthday in 2021, is expected to be one of
the lowest-paid members of the first team squad.
Vata has been linked with a number of clubs this season, notably those in Italy, but has recently become more
involved with Celtic’s first team squad, although just making three brief appearances.
