Cowboys Are Supposed to Sign a New Starting Running Back for Their First Play: Report
In NFL free agency, the Dallas Cowboys might have discovered Tony Pollard’s replacement. The Green Bay Packers free agency AJ Dillon has piqued the interest of the Cowboys, according to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network.
In a March 13, 2024 message on X, Rapoport said, “As the Packers have rebuilt their RB room,
free agent RB AJ Dillon has several options outside GB, with sources say he’s looking at the Giants, Colts, and Cowboys.”
Dallas might be considering bringing in a number of running backs to replace Pollard’s output.
The team is attempting to develop a new tandem that is comparable to
Pollard and Ezekiel Elliott, according to NFL Network’s Jane Slater.
R.J. Ochoa of Blogging the Boys observed on X on March 13 that
“[Slater] mentioned the report about AJ Dillon being connected to the Dallas Cowboys just now on NFL Network.”
“She said she thought the sentiment was shared by both parties.
“I believe the Cowboys are attempting to emulate an Ezekiel Elliott and Tony Pollard scenario.”
Although Dillon’s stats aren’t going to surprise supporters,
it’s vital to keep in mind that the seasoned player has mostly shared a crowded backfield in Green Bay.
The running back saw action in 15 games last season,
including 6 starts, with 178 carries for 613 rushing yards and 2 touchdowns.
In 2023, Dillon added 22 more receptions for 223 receiving yards.
The playmaker had a career-high seven touchdowns and 770 rushing yards in 2022, one season ago.
