‘Coming back feels right’: TE Adam Trautman reacts to re-signing with Broncos
The NFL’s 2024 season got underway on Wednesday at 2:00 p.m. MT, as the Broncos held onto a number of their
upcoming unrestricted free agents before the formal free agency period began.
The following is a review of the previously scheduled unrestricted free agents that the Broncos were able to re-sign:
S P.J. Locke: Two-year contract
Locke, who joined the Broncos practice squad in December 2019 and has since played for the team,
made his professional debut as a starter in 2023. Locke participated in 12 of Denver’s last 13 games after beginning the season on injured reserve.
He also started eight of those games. Locke finished with 53 tackles, two tackles for loss, three quarterback hits,
five pass breakups, two forced fumbles, and an interception.
K Wil Lutz: Two-year contract
In his debut season in Denver, Lutz made 30 of 34 field goals, missing only two of his 29 attempts that were inside the 50-yard line.
Among players with at least 25 field goals made in a season, his 88.2 percent success rate on field goals places him third in Broncos history.
In addition, Lutz matched for the second-most field goals made in a season in the history of the team.
Returning to Denver, K Wil Lutz said, “Being with the people you know makes it feel like home.”
FB Michael Burton: One-year contract
After joining the Broncos in 2023, Burton, a nine-year veteran, played in all 17 of Denver’s games. In addition to starting three games,
he contributed significantly on special teams, participating in close to 300 snaps.
TE Adam Trautman: Two-year contract
Trautman, whom the team acquired via a trade during the 2023 NFL Draft, started 12 contests and appeared in all 17 games during his first season in Denver.
He caught 22 passes for 204 yards and recorded three touchdowns, including a sliding effort for a score against Cleveland.
