Celtic have announce the signing of the most sort after midfielder
hoops are reportedly close to settling on a new contract with Daniel Kelly.
The midfielder is out of contract at the end of the year, although he has appeared off the bench in Celtic’s previous three games,
scoring in a 7-1 victory over Dundee.
David Turnbull’s move to Cardiff, combined with injuries to Callum McGregor and Reo Hatate,
has left Brendan Rodgers short on choices, with Kelly making the most of his opportunities.
Being in the final year of his contract provides the 18-year-old an advantage in contract discussions, but having been with Celtic since primary school, the club should be able to reach an agreement that benefits all sides.
In the Daily Record, transfer specialist Scott Burns reports:
Celtic are closing in on a new contract for youngster Daniel Kelly.
The teenager is out of contract at the end of the season, but the club has proposed an extension. Celtic want to sign the teenager long-term and are optimistic of reaching an agreement.
The 18-year-old has broken into Brendan Rodgers’ team in recent weeks and made an immediate impact, scoring his first professional goal in the recent Premiership blowout over Dundee.
Kelly has played regularly for Celtic’s B and Under-18 teams and is highly regarded. He has been linked with German clubs Bayer Leverkusen and RB Leipzig, as well as interest in England, but he want to remain at Parkhead.
Celtic want to secure Kelly’s future rather than risk losing him for training compensation at the conclusion of the season.
Celtic fans have been waiting for someone to emerge from the club’s academy.
Mikey Johnston, Stephen Welsh, and Tony Ralston have all played crucial roles in recent years, but none have established themselves in the same way as Kieran Tierney has.
