The candidates vying for the International Player of the Year title have been revealed by the Scottish Football Writers Association.

John McGinn of Aston Villa, Scott McTominay of Manchester United, Callum McGregor of Celtic, and Angus Gunn

of Norwich City are the other contenders. The victor will be recognized at the Sunday,

May 19, 2024, SFWA Player of the Year dinner.

This award takes into consideration every men’s team game since the June 2024 qualifiers, inclusive. The deadline to

vote is March 18. The £25 million-rated McGinn, an Aston Villa player, has been a key player for the national side in

midfield and has added goals to his game. In 2023, McTominay of Manchester United scored

an incredible seven goals from midfield in dark blue.

In midfield with the aforementioned pair, Celtic captain McGregor has always been there, and Gunn has now made a

name for himself in the regular category. Following Craig Gordon’s injury,

the Norwich City goalie has emerged as the leading choice.

All four will be certainties to be on the plane to Germany in the summer for Euro 2024, if they avoid injury.

Brendan Rodgers has confirmed McGregor currently has an Achilles

injury ahead of the latest round of Scotland matches

against Netherlands and Northern Ireland.

“It always is if you have your best players and your captain unavailable,” stated the Celtics manager. There will be

other players, of course, but his level of playfulness is above and above what many of our guys are capable of. Again,

let’s hope we can solve that and that he will be available following the international break.”
