Chiefs $28 Million LB Makes 1 Request Amid Pending Exit
This offseason, the Kansas City Chiefs will have to say goodbye to a number of
players who will be missed greatly.
One such player is Willie Gay Jr.; he asked fans on Tuesday, March 12, the day the
NFL’s legal tampering period opened, to do him a favor.
Gay’s four-year, $5.2 million rookie contract expired after the season,
and he will earn a four-year $28 million contract in free agency, according to
Spotrac.com.
Gay is ready to take on a more prominent defensive role after spending his entire
career in Kansas City.
“Please don’t judge my talent based on the 20–25 plays a game I played last year lol,”
Gay said on X, adding that she never attempts to explain herself on social media.
Gaining momentum and a sense of the game is REAL.
Gay took part in 62% of the snaps in the previous season.
Although he didn’t have a high grade overall (53.3) from Pro Football Focus, he did
receive a 71.3 in run defense.
In 2023, the Chiefs’ second-round 2020 NFL draft selection appeared in 15 of 16
games as a starter.
In all, he recorded 58 tackles, 3 forced fumbles, 1 interception, 1 sack, and 3 fumble
recoveries.
He racked up nine total tackles and one pass defensed in three postseason games.
Chiefs Kingdom showed Gay a lot of affection in response to his request.
“Someone gettin a dawg, wish you could run it back in KC for 1 more year,” was the
post made by Arrowhead Live.
“Willie, we know You are an Excellent football player,” a Chiefs supporter retorted.
Among the greatest. We are grateful to you.
Chiefs analyst Seth Keysor stated, “I haven’t found any lies in this.”
Gay also made serious damage in a short amount of snaps.
He merits an opportunity to begin at some point.
Fans of the Pittsburgh Steelers, where Gay is believed to sign as a free agent,
responded angrily to Gay’s message as well.
“We won’t judge you in Pittsburgh big bro,” a fan retorted.
After splitting up with the Denver Broncos for a high amount of money, quarterback
Russell Wilson signed with the Pittsburgh Steelers.
He would be thrilled to have the 6-foot-2, 243-pound linebacker join him in
Pittsburgh, based on his preferences on X. It seems like both parties share this
sentiment.
The fan post that said, “Yeah, I need to see @WillieGayJr in Black and Gold. 🔥,” was
liked by the two-time Super Bowl champion.
Gay appeared to realize his time in Kansas City was running out a few months prior
to the Chiefs re-signing Tranquill.
He made hints that his time in Kansas City was up following the Chiefs’ victory over
the Miami Dolphins in the Wild Card round.
“It’s looking like I’ve probably played my last game in Arrowhead 😢,” Gay posted.
“Damn im going to miss that place.
Nothing like it❤️💛 Lets go get this Ring to end it the right way🤞🏾.”
As the Buffalo Bills (the No. 2 seed) defeated the Steelers, the fourth-year veteran
delivered the message.
The Chiefs would have hosted the Houston Texans in the AFC Divisional game if the
Bills had lost. But the Bills prevailed 31–17, and Kansas City’s next game would be at
Buffalo.
