The club’s stance seems fairly firm.

Regarding Brendan Rodgers’s future as Celtic manager, a substantial update has surfaced, and the club’s present position has been made quite plain.

Brendan Rodgers under pressure at Celtic

The Irishman, who is currently in his second season at Parkhead, had a pretty successful first tenure, winning three Scottish League Cups, two Scottish Premiership titles, and one Scottish Cup each.

Over the course of 169 games, Rodgers averaged an incredible 2.24 points per game while leading Celtic, demonstrating their supremacy in all competitions and helping him to rebuild his reputation following a difficult conclusion to his stint at Liverpool.

The former Reds and Leicester City manager, though, may not have enjoyed the same level of support from the Hoops fan base this time around, and his team is having difficulty winning the league again. Entering the business end of the campaign, they are two points behind Rangers, something that many would not have imagined in August.

Even while Rodgers wasn’t in danger of losing his job, according to a prior article, he does seem to be in a more vulnerable situation than he was in the past. Now, a new article has surfaced that provides further details on his future.

Celtic make stance clear over Brendan Rodgers

Journalist Pete O’Rourke of Football Insider has reported that Rodgers is not considered a “long-term” choice for the dugout, meaning that Celtic do not envision him as their manager for many years to come. It continues by stating that “there have been too many on-field and off-field issues during Rodgers’ second spell at Parkhead, which could force the board into a decision.”

Going all the way in the Scottish Premiership is important because the Hoops board is “likely to sack the former Leicester City boss if he fails to win the league this season”.

In several aspects, this is an odd update because it seems Celtic does not have enough confidence in Rodgers to guarantee he will be the long-term solution at Parkhead. All this suggests is that there are legitimate concerns about him going forward, albeit not enough to dismiss him at this time.

Brendan Rodgers’ managerial career Matches Points per game
Celtic 38 2.05
Leicester City 204 1.59
Celtic 169 2.24
Liverpool 166 1.77
Swansea City 96 1.55
Reading 23 1.04
Watford 31 1.45

To be fair to the 51-year-old, it might seem hasty to relieve him of his responsibilities before the season is up, especially as Celtic is still in the running for the championship and has only dropped three of their 29 league games this year.

Although he has slightly decreased in his second stint as manager, averaging 2.05 points per game today, the advantages still exceed the drawbacks.

It is easy to envisage Rodgers being sacked if Rangers win the title ahead of their rivals, though, given the level of fume it could likely, and rightly, cause.
