According to Alan Hutton, Philippe Coutinho, a 31-year-old loanee from Aston Villa,

has played his final match in claret and blue because there is no chance for him to return under Unai Emery.

Under Steven Gerrard’s leadership, the Brazilian joined Villa Park.

Following a stellar loan campaign in which he scored five goals and provided three assists in 19 games,

Villa permanently purchased the player for £17 million.

The 31-year-old only managed one goal in his first season after making the

permanent transition, and Emery chose to send him—along with his rumored

£125,000 weekly salary—on loan to Al-Duhail for the year, where he has performed admirably.

Even with a possible boost in spending should Villa win Champions League football,

Hutton thinks Emery will be eager to move the Brazilian forward permanently.

Coutinho is scheduled to return to Villa Park at the end of the current campaign.

To be honest, Hutton told Villa News, “I don’t see it.”

“It goes without saying that Steven Gerrard took a slight chance on him in the hopes

that he would show up and perform like he did at places like Liverpool.

I just don’t see it happening because he was receiving enormous pay.

“I believe they will attempt to have him removed from the payroll.

He isn’t old enough to play against some of the best teams in this league every week

at this point in his career.

“To play for Villa under Emery, you have to possess that enthusiasm and drive,

as they play with aggression and a fast pace. I simply don’t see a path for him to return.

Will Philippe Coutinho ever play for Aston Villa again under Unai Emery?

The majority of Villa fans will concur that one of Gerrard’s worst moves while at Villa Park was to purchase Coutinho,

since the Brazilian never produced enough in claret and blue to justify his enormous salary.

The 31-year-old’s underwhelming loan term in Qatar is unlikely to have changed Emery’s opinion of him,

as the Spanish boss has high expectations for his offensive players.

Coutinho no longer fits into Villa’s plans past the end of the season,

and it appears likely that he will depart permanently at that point with the likes of Morgan Rogers and Jacob Ramsey both impressing in attacking midfield roles this season.
