Ibrox Latest: Rangers and Brighton in negotiation to make on loan striker deal permanent
Any team that has a player that scores every two games during the season will miss them,
and the Rangers, with Abdallah Sima, are no exception.
The 22-year-old has undoubtedly been one of the Light Blues’ best loan signings in terms of contribution,
so it’s no surprise Gers manager Philippe Clement wants to make his stay permanent.
The trouble, however, is that Premier League footballers do not come cheap, and Rangers will have to pay for Abdallah Sima,
which raises some concerns about a story saying that a club record might be smashed.
Can Rangers make the permanent Abdallah Sima deal work?
According to The Inside Track podcast, Brighton value Sima at around £10-15 million,
which is roughly the same amount Dick Advocaat paid for Tore Andre Flo,
and have suggested that Champions League participation might seal the deal.
This is not the early 2000s, though.
There are two other reasons why such a charge does not appear to be conceivable, even with Champions League money.
Mohammed Diomande and Oscar Cortes.
Technically, the two January signings are on loan until the summer, but we have an obligation to buy Diomande for £4.3 million and an option to purchase Cortes.
The fee for Cortes has not been stated, and it may not have been pre-arranged, but Lens paid around £3.8 million for his services last summer and will likely want their money back.
The Colombian may be wounded, but he has made enough of an impact to indicate that he could be a bargain at that price.
We’ve also discovered that Fabio Silva is just as successful off the left side; in fact, he’s stronger there than in the middle.
His father has already discussed another loan spell it could be that he comes back up to Ibrox with Abdallah Sima no longer available in the squad.
Cortes and Silva could more than carry the absence created by not being able to afford Sima.
The dream would be to sell periphery players such as Scott Wright, Ben Davies, Sam Lammers,
and Jose Cifuentes to free up funds for such an adventurous move.
Qualifying for the Champions League group stages would also be helpful.
Ironically, Abdallah Sima might help pay his own move to Rangers if he scores the league-winning goals.
