Hoops Review: Brendan Rodgers delivers worrying injury update
Brendan Rodgers hopes Cameron Carter-Vickers will avoid another extended injury layoff.
The central defender has been plagued with muscle problems this season, with his most recent run of games totaling three.
Coming off the bench for Motherwell, he helped the team win, scored in a 7-1 triumph over Dundee,
and played the entire match against Hearts last week.
There was no mention of a concern during Friday’s media conference,
but when the Celtic team for the match against Livingston was released, Stephen Welsh was in central defence alongside Liam Scales.
Listening to Rodgers speaking to BBC Sportsound before the match. According to the Sun, Celtic’s manager says:
It’s a precaution, really. He was supposed to start and did a little session yesterday, but he felt something in his hamstring.
We didn’t want to take the chance for him, and we hope it’s nothing serious.
Welshy can come in; he’s played some important games for us, and hopefully he’ll do well.
With Maik Nawrocki also injured, Gus Lagerbielke came on as a substitute in Celtic’s 4-2 triumph over Livingston.
Davie Martindale’s side took advantage of sloppy defending to tie the game twice, but it wasn’t until the 86th minute,
when Daizen Maeda completed his hat-trick, that the visitors were out of contention.
In virtually the final action of the game, substitute Kyogo Furuhashi beat the VAR check to score Celtic’s fourth goal.
Next week Celtic are at home to St Johnstone with a big decision to be taken on Carter-Vickers over whether he plays or takes a two week break before the away match on Livingston’s plastic pitch on March 31 ahead of the pivotal trip to Ibrox a week later.
