Breaking News: Detroit Lions about bringing in a huge defensive tackle

While most people think the Detroit Lions will be active cornerbacks, the most recent free agency rumours, according to ESPN’s Dan Graziano,

indicate the Lions might make a big splash at defensive tackle.

The free agency period begins at Noon ET on Monday.

According to Graziano, he anticipates that the Dolphins defensive tackle Christian Wilkins may be up for grabs, possibly between the Lions and the Houston Texans.

“Miami’s Christian Wilkins is likely to be a hot name, with contending teams like the Texans and Lions looking to upgrade at that position,

especially after Chris Jones landed a big deal on Saturday night,” Graziano wrote early on Sunday morning.

Jones reportedly signed a record-breaking contract this past weekend with the defensive teams of the Chiefs and Ravens.

Wilkins is the greatest defensive lineman available on the free agent market and is set for a huge paycheck.

Jones reportedly signed a record-breaking deal this weekend with the Chiefs and Ravens defensive tackle Justin Madubuike re-signing to Baltimore on a four-year, $98 million deal.

The 28-year-old Wilkins just finished his career with a career-high 9.0 sacks and 61 pressures,

which ranks him eighth among all NFL defensive tackles according to PFF.

Wilkins offers excellent run defence in addition to his pass rush, having earned a PFF run defence grade of 69 or above for four consecutive seasons.

2023: DTs rank 17th with a run defence grade of 69.5.
2022: fourth place, 78.9
2021: Third, at 80.8
2020: 73.9 (placed 22nd)

With just Chris Smith, Brodric Martin, Levi Onwuzuruike, and Alim McNeill under contract through 2024, the Lions need defensive tackle desperately.

Martin’s contract

Only Martin has a contract that runs through the following season out of the four.

Wilkins would probably demand a deal worth more than $20 million annually, but after five consecutive seasons of ranking in the bottom 10 in points allowed,

Detroit’s defence is in desperate need of new blood.

There are a couple other intriguing candidates at defensive lineman for the Lions to consider if Wilkins is not selected.
