Sources: Celtic finally agree deal to sign 22-year-old striker
According to Football Insider, Celtic have made it their top priority to find a new wide player following Liel Abada’s departure.
The Glasgow giants are eager to fill the gap left by the 22-year-old as soon as possible during the summer transfer window.
On Thursday (7 March), Football Insider reported that Abada had completed his medical at MLS club Charlotte FC ahead of a move.
The deal was made official on Friday (8 March), with Celtic earning up to £10 million after investing only £3.5 million to sign him in the summer of 2021.
Abada felt dissatisfied with the Glasgow giants owing to substantial personal difficulties around the continuing Israel-Palestine conflict.
Liel Abada’s successor is now Celtic’s top priority.
The 22-year-old signed a new four-year contract with Celtic in September of last year, one month before the violence in his home country worsened.
Despite the club’s warnings, Celtic’s largest fan group, the Green Brigade, routinely hoisted Palestinian flags during matches.
Abada scored 29 goals and produced 22 assists for Celtic in 112 appearances, and Celtic will now look to find a replacement in the summer.
Brendan Rodgers has employed Daizen Maeda and Yang Hyun-Jun out wide in recent games, but the Hoops manager will want reinforcements in the summer.
