Breaking News: Player grades- Warriors vs. Bulls

The Golden State Warriors fell 125-122 to the Chicago Bulls on Thursday, blowing a 13-point first-quarter lead and maybe losing a couple guys in the process.

Breaking News: Player grades- Warriors vs. Bulls

To be completely honest, I don’t want to discuss this game at all. It’s been a difficult day, the Warriors’ defeat was upsetting, and Steph Curry and Trayce Jackson-Davis sustained injuries.

Furthermore, these are my least favourite games to attempt to analyse: the Bulls shot noticeably better than they typically do on threes, while the Warriors shot noticeably worse.

The loss was both understandable and unjustifiable.

If you believe in the statistically supported theory that teams only actually affect variance and have no significant effect on the opposition’s three-point percentagesdoes — then you could claim that luck and variance not only are responsible for the loss, but cost the Warriors a blowout win.

Naturally, it isn’t how sports operate. There was no lopsided victory for the Warriors.

They had absolutely no victory. But that makes writing about it more difficult and less enjoyable.

I will therefore rapidly go over these. As usual, grades are determined by my standards for every player; a player’s average performance is indicated with a “B” grade.

Note: Three-pointers and free throws are included in the true-shooting percentage (TS), a scoring efficiency metric. As of Thursday’s games, 58.1% was the league average TS.

Green Draymond

33 minutes, 10 rebounds, 11 points, 12 assists, 2 steals, 4 fouls, and 4 turnovers 45.8% TS, 0 plus/minus, 5-for-12 shooting, 1-for-5 three-pointers

You can clearly perceive the sweet and bitter aspects of Green’s performance even if you only glance at the box score. It was his first triple-double of the year!

In addition, he made four mistakes and fouled out of the game (okay, so with only 58 seconds remaining).

The play that resulted in the fourth turnover and sixth foul saw Green penalised for an illegal screen just as Klay Thompson was attempting to break free for the game-winning jumper.
