Arsenal and Man City shoved aside Aston Villa’s confidence that they could reach an agreement for a midfield player valued at £100 million.

With potential approaches from Manchester City and Arsenal to be turned down,

Aston Villa is optimistic that they can persuade Douglas Luiz to sign a new contract at Villa Park this summer—subject to one significant requirement.

The Brazilian midfielder is having a fantastic season for Unai Emery’s team,

which controls its own Champions League fate.

However, on Sunday, Aston Villa hosts Tottenham, their closest rivals,

at Villa Park in a crucial match that will determine who finishes in the top four.

Which of the two finishes in the top four this season will probably be determined by that Sunday’s match, with Manchester United waiting in the wings for a mistake from either.

However, Luiz has been incredibly competitive this season,

demonstrating why he’s currently considered one of the Premier League’s best midfield players and may possibly have a chance to be nominated for PFA Player of the Year.

With 26 Premier League appearances so far this season, the 25-year-old star has five assists and nine goals,

and Villa has placed a minimum £100 million tag on his head due to his performance.

Villa’s appraisal of Luiz does not appear excessive when compared to the prices spent for players like Declan Rice (£105 million),

Moises Caicedo (£100 million, increasing to £115 million), and Enzo Fernandez (£106.7 million).

However, if Villa indicated they would be open to discussing his sale, a number of teams would be vying for his signature.

Luiz has also been mentioned as a potential target by two of the Premier League’s top teams,

raising concerns that Villa may need to cash in on a big name this summer to relieve their financial strain.

Douglas Luiz, a target for Man City and Arsenal, will “sign new contract.”

In fact, Arsenal has been considering him for the better part of two years, and in the summer of 2022,

they saw a £25 million offer for his services turned down.

With the increasing expense of elite-level midfielders,

that fee almost looks ridiculous now, but from Villa’s perspective,

at least they made the right decision by rejecting that strategy.

However, with the uncertainty surrounding Mohamed Elneny, Thomas Partey, and Jorginho’s futures at Emirates Stadium, Arsenal is heavily favoured to revive their interest in Luiz this summer.

According to reports, Pep Guardiola would love to have the former City youth player return to the Etihad this summer and integrate him into their all-star lineup. The midfielder is also allegedly on Manchester City’s desired list.

Paying what might end up being a British record amount for the player would not be difficult for any party.

Villa is supported to sign him to a new contract, though, as his potential for Champions League qualification and UEFA Conference League triumph should be sufficient to keep him around.

Football Insider was told by former Villa player Alan Hutton,

“You’re always nervous that your best players could be sold.”

“You always think of Ollie Watkins or John McGinn when you have those fears.”

Clubs will always be keeping an eye on your players when they perform well.

“Having said that, he will be rewarded if Villa has a successful conclusion,

performs well in the Conference League, and secures a Champions League spot.”
At Villa Park, Star is content.

Regarding Luiz‘s future,

Hutton believes that despite interest from other Premier League teams,

the player is content at Villa Park and would not think twice about signing a new contract.

The former Scotland international continued,

“He’s been a huge part of that squad and he looks really happy.”

“Both he and the fans adore each other.”

When you sense that something exceptional is developing,

would he desire to relocate from Villa? No, I wouldn’t.
