Israeli winger Liel Abada has officially joined Major League Soccer team Charlotte FC from Scottish Premiership powerhouse Celtic.
The 22-year-old signed a deal with the option to extend it by an additional 12 months, with an expiration date of 2026.

It is believed that Charlotte paid a club record £10 million to entice Abada to the United States. The winger was signed as one of the team’s youthful designated players, holding a spot on the international roster.

Abada leaves Celtic after spending two and a half years winning five major trophies, including two Scottish Premiership crowns, and making 112 appearances while contributing 29 goals and 22 assists.

Due to personal reasons, the Israel international missed Celtic’s previous five games in light of the ongoing crisis between his homeland, Israel, and Palestine.

Many Celtics supporters have routinely displayed the national flag at Parkhead in solidarity with Palestine,

and they have joined together to sing songs during games in spite of Israel’s ongoing military offensive in Gaza.

Since Abaad “does not feel quite right or ready” to play for the Hoops,

manager Brendan Rodgers acknowledged last month that the player may soon depart the team.

Abada has said goodbye to Celtic on Instagram and is ready to take on a

new challenge in the Major League Soccer with Dean Smith’s Charlotte team.

“After two-and-a-half incredible years, the time has come to bid farewell,” Abada wrote in a letter.

“Where even do I start?

Though life’s unforeseen twists serve as a constant reminder that we are not always in control,

leaving Celtic wasn’t in my plans.

“The last half-year has been a personal struggle for me,

but the gaffer, coaches,

and board have provided me with unwavering support.

Their steadfast faith throughout these trying times will be treasured forever rather than forgotten.

I grin when I think back on my journey here because I will always remember the goals achieved,

the trophies raised, the electrifying atmospheres, and the moments of pure happiness.

“Thank you to my staff and teammates for encouraging me to grow not just as a player but also as a person.

All of you have had a significant influence on who I am now. A particular thank you to my partner and family,

whose unwavering love and support have been my beacon of hope.
