Update:NFL Finally Announces its 2024 compensatory picks

The NFL has allocated compensatory draft picks to teams for the 2024 draft. Comp choices range from Round 3 to

Round 7 and are calculated using an add/subtract technique that covers the 2023 free agency era. The teams with

the most significant free agent losses receive higher draft picks.

This year, the NFL awarded 34 compensatory choices. The comp pick methodology assigns picks to franchises with

the highest net losses, therefore teams that sign several free agents have a lower probability of earning picks.

According to Rob Demovsky of ESPN.com, the CBA restricts the overall compensatory number to 32, and the

Cowboys, Jaguars, and Packers are eligible for an additional compensatory choice based on the net loss

methodology.

The new NFL system also awards third-round compensatory selections to teams who have a minority assistant coach

become head coach or a minority front office executive become general manager. Teams gain two third-round picks

for losing an assistant or FO to a higher-level position, but the picks do not come in the same draft. The 49ers’

pipeline is still running and will continue to do so until the 2025 draft, with Ran Carthon getting the Titans’ GM post

last year and DeMeco Ryans becoming the Texans’ head coach.

The Rams used their first of two third-round picks to sign Raheem Morris from the Falcons. Because Dave Canales

was Tampa Bay’s offensive coordinator for only one season, the Buccaneers did not get a compensatory pick in

exchange for his departure from the Panthers.
