Report:Chiefs re-sign key defensive starter from 2023
While the Kansas City Chiefs and their supporters wait for contract word on cornerback L’Jarius Snead and
defensive tackle Chris Jones, another crucial defender is set to return on Thursday night.
Drue Tranquill, an outside linebacker who helped the Chiefs win Super Bowl LVIII in his debut season, is returning
to Kansas City.
Jeremy Fowler of ESPN reported that Tranquill and the Chiefs had reached an agreement on a new contract. Shortly
after, Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network responded with the particular details, claiming that “it’s a three-year deal
worth $19 million, with $13 million fully guaranteed, per source.”
Tranquill also appeared to corroborate the transfer. He posted a selfie of himself and Travis Kelce celebrating the
Super Bowl win, captioned “unfinished business #ChiefsKingdom LETS GOOOOO.”
In 2024, Tranquill will be in his sixth season of the NFL, having spent his first four seasons with the Los Angeles
Chargers, the Chiefs’ AFC West rivals. In his first season in Kansas City, Tranquill started 16 regular season games
and all four postseason games, recording 4.5 sacks and 58 solo tackles during the regular season. In the playoffs,
Tranquill had 21 tackles, 16 of which were solo.
